Welcome to Episode 189 of the Salsa Kings LIVE podcast
We have been featured as #1 in “Top 10 Salsa Podcasts” on FeedSpot.
Hey guys! This is Pablo. I’m so happy you’re here. This was episode 189 of the podcast, and it’s called Don’t Impress Me. In this one, Andres and I talked about something super important—why we really dance and how it should never be just to impress someone. This topic came up while we were helping students prepare for a big competition at the end of April. A lot of guys told me they felt like they were doing the same moves over and over again. So we had a real talk about what matters most when you dance.
Key Points
🎵 Don’t Dance to Impress — Dance to Enjoy the Music
- A lot of people come into dancing trying to impress others.
- Guys might want to impress girls, and girls might want to impress guys—or even each other.
- But we say in every class: dancing should be about having fun!
- If you’re trying to show off, you’re not truly connecting with the music or your partner.
🎧 Music Is the Real Connection
- If you feel bored or like you’re doing the same moves, it’s probably because you’re not listening to the music.
- Without music, there’s no connection. Music is what lets us feel something with our partner.
- We don’t stand on the music like a stage. We come from the music. It’s what gives us energy to move.
🎯 Your Intention Matters Most
- If your goal is just to impress, you’re gonna run out of moves.
- But if your goal is to have fun or express yourself, you’ll never run out of ways to dance.
- Think about why you came to dance. Are you here to let go of stress? To feel joy? That’s your true reason—and it should guide how you dance.
🔥 Be Authentic
- Being real, being yourself—that’s the strongest energy there is.
- People can feel when you’re being honest in your dancing.
- Don’t try to copy others or do what you think looks cool. Do what feels right to you.
- If you move from that honest place, people will feel it—and that’s what impresses the most.
🧠 Confidence Comes from Being Yourself
- Confidence doesn’t come first. It comes after you’ve been true to yourself.
- Decide that you’ll only make choices based on what you want—not to impress anyone.
- When you ask yourself, “Do I really want to do this?” and say yes, you build real confidence.
🤔 Reflect on Why You’re Dancing Tonight
- When everyone is dancing from their real feelings, the vibe is better for everyone.
- Sometimes we go out just because our friends are going.
- But have you ever asked yourself, “Do I even want to dance tonight?”
- If you don’t want to, that’s okay. Don’t force it.
